The Maserati Club
was formed in 1972 when a group of enthusiastic owners decided that they
could not be alone in sharing a passion for these cars. An advertisement
was placed the motoring press and a meeting was held at "The In On
The Park" in Park Lane London. Those present decided that it was a
good idea and formed the club and promptly elected a committee!
The
club is open not only to owners of Maseratis but also to enthusiasts
of the marque. Our interests cover the prewar racing and sports racing
cars, the post war or "historic" racing and sports racing cars,
the "classic" GT cars, the range of Biturbo models, the highly acclaimed 3200GT through to the Spyder and Coupé, the amazing MC12, and the current Quattroporte and GranTurismo.
Owners of OSCA cars, which
were built by the Maserati brothers after they had severed their
relationship with the company the bore their name in 1947, are also
welcomed, as are owners of Maserati Motorcycles, batteries, machine
equipment, sparking plugs and racing boats!
The aims of the club are to provide
information, assistance with ownership and a programme of events, in the United
Kingdom and abroad, where members can meet to enjoy our mutual addiction. It is
a social, friendly club that also offers a varied range of activities and has a
reputation for being one of the most friendly car clubs you could hope to find.
Although predominantly a UK club, as
the oldest club dedicated to Maseratis we have a membership that spans the whole
globe from Australia to Zimbabwe.
Evolution
Through the years the club has
gradually evolved from being predominantly concerned with the older racing
Maseratis. Through to its current form where a large proportion of the
members own the more recent Biturbo cars. This is natural given the finite
number of the early cars and the increasing number of the newer cars. Over
time I am sure that this balance will again shift to the 3200GT as
production increases to meet demand.
Most
of us whilst lusting after a 250F or Birdcage or Sebring or Bora, content
ourselves with that knowledge that today we can enjoy Maserati motoring in
a Biturbo and tomorrow, well maybe, just maybe... If you are an enthusiast
for the Marque, you will be welcomed within the club, whatever you
drive. |
