BITURBO EXHAUST MANIFOLDS

There are two problems that can arise with the exhaust manifolds. One is cracking and the other is warping - which causes a leak between the faces of the manifold and the cylinder heads.

2. The manifold design has only changed once for all Biturbos and the superseded version with the extra rib was fitted to all Ghibli GTs and Ghibli Cups.

You can however minimise this happening by NEVER DRIVING A COLD ENGINE HARD and also NEVER SWITCHING THE ENGINE OFF IMMEDIATELY AFTER A LONG RUN - let the engine idle for a few minutes to equalise the temperatures.

Lunch drive to Woy Woy along the Old Pacific Highway

Scuderia Maserati at Woy Woy

What a great drive along the Old Pacific Highway!

We said we would meet at the car park at the Hornsby Station but who would figure in advance that there were two car parks there! There were some strange phone calls ... I'm in the car park ... what car park ... the train station ... which station ... oh so why can't I see you then. After we had that all sorted out we set off for a quiet drive up the Old Pacific Highway.

There's something about a bunch of Maseratis going up the road that seems to make people in other cars appear to be transfixed - like a rabbit in the headlights. Between the zoom-whoosh of the twin turbos and the high revs and quick shifts of the 4.2 litre V8s they just seem to point and gesticulate wildly.

A pit stop along the way to annoy the bikers at the "Pie in the Sky" and we were off on the what we then knew to be the pretty much clear road from there on to Gosford (Mr Plod was last seen pulling into the pie shop as we left). The rest of the drive was just beautiful, with hardly anybody en the road in either direction so we got to exercise the steering wheel a little...

You could see the water through the floorboards ... is that a good thing?

Lunch was the best fish I have had for a long time ... we had a choice of so many fresh fish that by the time you got to the bottom of the menu you had forgotten what was at the top and had to start all over again - and so it went till you were forced by the waitress to make a decision.

And in closing all I can say is ... next drive along a road full of bends we will have to issue sea sickness patches in advance for the slightly faint of heart ... a Ghibli that can turn left and right is a good thing ... and ... yes it's just an Astra.
