MASERATI: THE 100,000TH GHIBLI IS PRODUCED AT THE AVV. GIOVANNI AGNELLI PLANT AT GRUGLIASCO

Modena, 24 September 2019 – This morning, at the Avv. Giovanni Agnelli Plant (AGAP) where the Ghibli sports sedan and the Quattroporte flagship are built, celebrations were held to mark the production of Ghibli number 100,000.

100,000 Maserati Ghibli AGAP Grugliasco

The car in question is a Ghibli S Q4 in the GranSport trim with Blu Emozione exterior colour and interior in black natural full-grain Pieno Fiore leather. Externally, the Ghibli GranSport features Adaptive Full LED Matrix headlights and is also recognisable for the Black Piano inserts on the front bumper, the “GranSport” badge on the front wing, body-colour side skirts, red brake callipers and 20-inch polished alloy wheels. The car is destined for the Italian market, where the Maserati sports sedan has been a great success since its launch in 2013, due to its comfortable ride, exquisite finishes, sporty character and enjoyable driving experience. Thanks to the powerful 430 HP 3.0 litre V6 Twin Turbo engine, the Ghibli S Q4 with Q4 intelligent all-wheel drive delivers impressive performance: a top speed of 286 km/h and acceleration 0-100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds.

The Ghibli is available with V6 Twin Turbo 3.0 litre petrol engines with power outputs of both 350 and 430 HP. The range also includes the mighty V6 turbodiesel with the same displacement, producing 275 HP. The sports sedan can be customised with a choice of 10 different bodywork colours, including Blu Nobile, a tri-coat colour with sparkling glass flakes in the paint which shimmer in the sun, and five interior colours. There are no fewer than 150,000 possible combinations. The alloy wheels are available in six designs with various finishes, in sizes ranging from 18 to 21-inch.

As well as the GranSport, Ghibli is also produced in the GranLusso trim, with an emphasis on luxury and sophistication. In this case, the interior is by Ermenegildo Zegna and combines Full Premium natural leather with 100% natural fibre mulberry silk inserts on seats, door panels, roof lining, sunshades and the ceiling light fixture. The chromed bumper inserts, body-colour side skirts, “GranLusso” badge on the front bumper and 19-inch alloy wheels with black callipers complete the look for this trim.

Ghibli number 100,000 is a major milestone for Maserati and for the people who work at the Grugliasco plant. Since its launch at the Shanghai Motor Show in 2013, Ghibli has garnered positive reviews in the world's top motoring journals, and has also found favour with many customers around the globe. The Maserati sports sedan's main markets are the USA, China, Italy, Japan and Germany.

Since its debut, the Ghibli, the first Maserati car to be fitted with a Diesel engine, has benefited over the years from a large number of continual updates covering every aspect of its design and engineering, to constantly increase its market competitiveness.

It was at the Chengdu Motor Show in China in 2017 that the Ghibli GranLusso and GranSport trims were presented. New advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS) were also introduced at the same time.

Important new interior features were presented at the Goodwood Festival Of Speed in 2018, including the new gearshift lever with more ergonomic, functional design and the full-grain Pieno Fiore natural leather seats in three different colours, as well as a number of completely restyled internal components.

All the engines in the current Ghibli range (petrol and diesel) are Euro 6D Temp Evap and therefore comply with the latest international emissions standards.

Every single Ghibli that comes off the production line at the Grugliasco plant is meticulously inspected to guarantee impeccable quality throughout the production process, from ‘Body-in-White’ to painting, and from assembly to dynamometer, water and electronics testing. What's more, every car is road-tested for approximately 40km by a professional test-driver, after which it leaves the production plant for shipment to the customer.

After being held in Germany last year, the Maserati Club UK – the oldest Maserati club founded in 1972 – organised this year’s event, based at the iconic Gleneagles Hotel in Auchterarder which features world famous golf courses, a luxury spa and Scotland’s only two-Michelin star restaurant.

The driving element of the rally kicked off on Saturday and took in a hill climb course up the famous Rest and be Thankful road which divides Glen Kinglas from Glen Croe and, at its highest point of 245m above sea level, offers views of some of the most beautiful scenery in Scotland.

The hill climb, organised in conjunction with the Caledonian Motor Club, was over a road built by General Wade in the 1750s to allow the English easier access to some of the wilder parts of the Scottish Highlands.

Among the cars taking part in this year’s MIR were a host of classics including the oldest vehicle taking part, a 1957 Maserati 3500GT, a Vignale Spider as well as a stunning Sebring. Alongside these beautiful classics were more recent vehicles, including several Maserati GranTurismos and the latest Levante SUV. Overall, the collection of participating vehicles illustrated the strength of Maserati’s DNA, which could be seen clearly in modern day cars as well as the classics.

The coveted Peter Martin Trophy, awarded to the winner of the rally at the prize giving that closed out the event, was won by Armin and Beatriz Streuli and their Maserati Coupé while the winner of the Concours d’Elegance was named as Onno Hesselink’s Mistral Coupé.

Whilst the cars were the main focus of the Rally, there was ample time for participants to take in some of the cultural and scenic highlights of the unique territory with visits to Inveraray, Blair and Stirling Castles, a malt whisky distillery and even an opportunity to take part in a Scottish Cèilidh where the dress code was decidedly tartan.

Next year’s MIR will be hosted by the Maserati Club in Sweden.

MASERATI COMPLETES ITS A TRIBUTE TO CHINA 2019 GRAND TOUR 10,000KM JOURNEY CELEBRATES 15 YEARS IN CHINA

Chengdu, 15 July 2019 - Today, Maserati completed its nearly 10,000km A Tribute to China Grand Tour. The Grand Tour was held to mark Maserati’s 15th anniversary in the Chinese market and pay tribute to the traditions and cultural heritage that China and Italy share. Starting in Shanghai, a city famed for its blend of Chinese and Western culture, the Grand Tour lasted about 40 days and welcomed around 380 Maserati customers and journalists (including the kick-off event). It travelled four routes, climbed 16 mountains and crossed 70 cities in 10 provinces, creating an M-shaped journey across the country. China’s stunning landscapes provided the ideal backdrop and manifested the power, luxury and comfort of the Maserati Quattroporte, Levante and Ghibli. The distinct Chinese culture and ancient craftsmanship echoed Maserati’s long history and endless pursuit of Italian excellence.

SPECTACULAR BACKDROP FOR THREE UNIQUE MASERATI MASTERPIECES

2019 is a landmark year for Maserati as it marks a double anniversary: the 105th anniversary of the legendary brand and its 15-year-journey in China. For 105 years, the iconic Italian luxury vehicle brand has been crafting driving experiences that combine performance, comfort, style, refinement, and enjoyment of life. To celebrate the double anniversary, Maserati designed four exclusive routes that matched China’s striking natural landscapes and unique culture with the distinct Italian flair and elegance of the Maserati brand. The participants crossed the peaks and rivers of the Yangtze River area, visited cultural sites to discover ancient wisdom, followed the historic Silk Road to learn about its significance in linking cultures of the East and West, and traversed the vast and breath-taking mountain landscapes of Western China.

The Grand Tour was led by Maserati’s 2019 model range, with the Quattroporte, Levante and Ghibli each revealing their unique characteristics along the way. The modern and dynamic design of the Maserati Ghibli, with its elegant styling and streamlines, was in fine contrast with the exquisite and skilfully constructed architecture in Eastern China and Pingyao Ancient City. The Maserati SUVs, the Levante, Levante Trofeo and GTS, conquered the challenging terrains of the Gobi desert on the ancient Silk Road and surmounted the mountains and glaciers from Dunhuang to Chengdu. Whether set against rivers, mountains, highlands or ancient temples, the iconic Maserati Quattroporte exuded charm and timeless sophistication in every location and from every angle with comfort and grace.

SPECTACULAR BACKDROP FOR THREE UNIQUE MASERATI MASTERPIECES

As well as being noted for their dramatic beauty, China and Italy share an outstanding tradition of creativity, craftsmanship and refinement. As a brand born in Italy, Maserati inherits the same values of its country. During the Grand Tour, participants experienced some of China’s most famous art and craftsmanship monuments, from the magnificent architecture of ancient Buddhist temples to the former residences of Tang dynasty poet Liu Zongyuan and famous Qing Dynasty painter Zhang Daqian. The inspirations from these innovators last until now, in the same way that the Maserati brand continues to be inspired by the Italian masters of the past.

The Grand Tour participants were also inspired by China’s longstanding passion for crafting works of beauty and sophistication, like the Dongyuan letterpress printing, the “living fossil of ancient printing techniques”, and the exquisite lacquer-ware of Pingyao Ancient City. At Maserati, this same spirit of craftsmanship from the Italian passion for life has fuelled the brand for 105 years. Every Maserati is crafted to ensure superior quality in every detail. Maserati’s passion for excellence and luxury has made its cars exclusive for over a hundred years. As it celebrates its 15th anniversary of entering the Chinese market, Maserati completed a memorable journey in tribute to China and its rich culture. As the longest tour organized by the brand in recent years, the Grand Tour lived up to Maserati‘s unrelenting passion for driving and living. In the future, Maserati will continue to innovate, refine and perfect in order to create beautiful life experiences for its customers.

This edition of the Transpac attracted 90 entrants, among which there are six multihulls. Alongside Maserati Multi 70 there will be the American MOD 70 Argo, the English MOD 70 PowerPlay and the American 63’ trimaran Paradox. In the multihull category there will also be American catamarans Celestra and KastorPollux, respectively 40’ and 42’.

In addition to beating the multihull record, set in 2017 by the American ORMA 60 Mighty Merloe (4 days, 6 hours, 32 minutes and 30 seconds), the Italian trimaran and its competitors will race for the Rudy Choi Perpetual Trophy, awarded for the fastest multihull elapsed time.

Maserati Multi 70’s Team, who have already participated in the Transpac in 2017, will compete again with the two MOD 70s, which they have previously challenged many times: American Argo, skippered by Jason Carroll, and English PowerPlay, skippered by Peter Cunningham. The two rival trimarans will sail in classic mode, even though Argo is working to develop a flying system and will race with flying rudders.

Since its first edition, raced in 1906 with only 3 entrants, the Transpac has become more and more important and today it is one of the most eagerly anticipated and watched racing events.

The historical regatta starts from Pt. Fermin, Los Angeles leaving Catalina Island to port; the finish line, around 2,225 miles away, is off Diamond Head, Honolulu, Hawaii.

The weather forecast shows typical conditions for this time of the year: “The first hours after the start will be the hardest» Giovanni Soldini explains, «there will be a wind hole but we will try to make our stand. Later, for around twelve hours, we will sail broad reach with a nice 20-25 wind. After that the wind will start to get lighter and turn to tailwind. We will have to try to stay in the best wind possible and, at the same time, sail around the high pressure.”

Maserati Multi 70’s Team is continuing its research and testing in order to optimize the trimaran’s flying performance. Giovanni Soldini explains: “During the last race, the CA 500, we carried out some tests that helped us further improve the rudders’ system. We already tried it out on the water and it seems to work really well. Maserati Multi 70 is in good shape and we’re excited!”

For this edition of the Transpac, skipper Giovanni Soldini will be joined aboard Maserati Multi 70 by a crew of 7 expert sailors:

He has been working alongside Giovanni Soldini for many years, since he was team leader in the building and in the racing preparation of 60’ Fila in 1998. MASERATI CELEBRATES THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FIRST INDY COUPÉ DELIVERY

Modena, 1st July 2019 – The 1st of July 1969 is an important day in the history of Maserati, since the first Indy built for a customer left the Trident Brand's historic headquarters at Via Ciro Menotti 322 in Modena, heading for delivery in Switzerland. The car was shipped to Maserati's Swiss importer of that time, “Martinelli e Sonvico” in Chiasso. A few days later, the Indy, in "oro metalizzato" external colour and brown leather interior, was consigned to a wealthy Swiss businessman. The Maserati Indy was presented at the Turin Motor Show in 1968, on the Carrozzeria Vignale stand. The following year, the car officially debuted on the Maserati stand at the Geneva Motor Show. In 1968, Maserati built about 700 cars, the best result it had ever recorded since the opening of the Modena production plant. The Maserati range in 1968 was composed of Ghibli, Mexico, Mistral, Quattroporte and Sebring models. In the same year, Maserati achieved a 43% market share in the "over 3,500 cc” segment in Italy.

In response to demand from customers who were looking for a comfortable, habitable and sporting car, Maserati decided to develop a new model. This led to the start of the AM116 (Alfieri Maserati 116) project: Carrozzeria Vignale was commissioned to design a four-seater coupé that would deliver comfort, sporty performances and innovative looks. The outcome was the Indy, named in honour of the 8CTF's impressive wins at the Indianapolis 500 in 1939 and 1940.

The new Indy had large windows to ensure excellent visibility without blind spots, while also giving the car a particularly sleek line. It also featured many genuine sportscar details: the front included pop-up headlights, a real sportscar icon of the time, and an air scoop underneath the slender bumper. Another distinctive characteristic was the truncated rear, reflecting the strong focus on aerodynamic efficiency in the design phase.

Initially, the engine was a 4,136 cc V8 with bore of 88mm and stroke of 85mm, four Weber 42 DCNF carburettors and single-plug transistor ignition with battery and regulating distributor. The standard transmission was five-speed manual, with automatic gearbox on request. Its power output was 260 hp and top speed peaked at 250 km/h. In 1970 the Indy was also offered with the 4,719 cc V8 engine, equipped with the new electronic ignition system developed by Bosch. The maximum power output was boosted to 290 hp, with a top speed of 280 km/h.

From 1971, the 300 hp, a 4,930 cc engine was introduced alongside the existing powerplants, and from 1973 this became the only propulsion unit available for the Indy. The Maserati Indy boasted a high specification as standard: leather seat upholstery, mechanical anti-theft system, adjustable steering wheel, heated rear window, tinted power windows, reclining front seats with headrests and iodine headlights. Automatic gearbox, power steering and radio were available as optionals. From 1973, an air-conditioning system was added as standard. In total, from 1969 to 1975, the Modena plant built 1,102 Indy cars. Prominent customers included Abdorreza Pahlavi, the Shah of Persia’s brother, who ordered an Indy in 1974, specifying a number of optionals including an opening sunroof. The car was prepared to his requirements and delivered at the company headquarters in February 1975. The car still survives and is now in a private collection. Key technical features of the Maserati Indy: Production dates: 1969 - 1975 Chassis: semi-monocoque with front subframe Engine: 90° V8 Displacement: from 4,136 cc to 4,930 cc Power: from 260 hp to 300 hp Transmission: mechanical five-speed; Borg Warner three-speed automatic on request Braking system: ventilated discs with servo system Weight: from 1,500 kg to 1,650 kg Top speed: from 250 Km/h to 280 Km/h

Modena, 3 July 2019 - Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V. (“FCA”) (NYSE: FCAU/MTA: FCA) today announced two moves in its leadership team. Davide Grasso, former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NIKE’s Converse, joins FCA and is named Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Maserati. Grasso also is appointed to the Company’s Group Executive Council (GEC).

While at Converse, Grasso engineered that iconic brand for long-term sustainable growth. I’m honored to be joining FCA at such a defining and transformative moment for the company and the industry.”

“This is a fundamental step in the growth of Maserati both for its technological development and for brand expansion and for this I’m excited to work with Davide” said Harald Wester. “I’m honored to take the lead of global powertrain for the Group in this challenging period. Exterior-wise, a new aluminium bonnet with dual vents, 21-inch forged aluminium wheels, carbon fibre front splitter, front grille blades, side skirts and rear valance, along with Trofeo badging, make the range topping Levante unmistakable on the road.

The exclusive Trofeo Launch Edition, which is limited to only 50 units for Europe, is available in three unique exterior colours – Blu Emozione matte, Giallo Modenese and Rosso Magma whilst the interior featuring natural “Pieno Fiore” leather sport seats is available in black with red, blue or yellow contrast stitching. Sharing the same 3.8 litre V8 Twin Turbo petrol engine, and developing 530 HP, the GTS also features an elegant exterior restyling focused on the lower front fascia and the rear bumper, giving the Levante GTS an even more aggressive and head turning presence.
