From Michiel in The Netherlands

"Hello there Enrico!

What a wonderful Maserati site have you made!

Although I regard the A6 series, and especially some A6G Zagato’s as the ultimate sportscar, I am currently trying to find out as much as possible about a pre-war Maserati: The V4.

All I have is a few pages from a very nice book on Maserati. I have bought the Quattroruote book a few years ago in Italy. The text is in Italian and it was only € 15,-, but it is really very good.

It is titled “Maserati dalla tipo 26 alla Quattroporte” and the ISDN is 88-727-449-2.

Best regards,

Michiel.

"Hi Michiel,

Yes, I know this book. I have a copy and it represents excellent value. There is not much written about the V4 or V5. Pity, because they were such impressive cars. Both cars were destroyed.

The V4 has been recreated by Anthony Hartley here in the UK and was displayed at the 'Goodwood Festival of Speed' this year. A V5 replica with an original V5 engine has also been recreated by Igor Zanisi in Italy. It was displayed at Maserati's 90th Anniversary celebrations in Italy in 2004.

The only decent piece written on the V4 and V5 is from the book 'Maserati: A complete history from 1926 to the present day' by Luigi Orsini and Franco Zagari.

This book contains around 700 pages and is the most comprehensive and well illustrated book ever written about Maseratis. The book is now out-of-print, and clean copies exchange hands at around GB £150-£200.

Best regards,

Enrico."

From Cromoclassico.com in Italy

While we're on the subject of the Maserati V4, here are some stunning photos of a very special Zagato bodied road version, taken at Pebble Beach back in 2003, courtesy of Cromoclassico.com. The site has an excellent English section, but there are even more stunning classics to be viewed in their Italian section!!

MASERATI V4

"Tra le grandi auto da corsa a sedici cilindri la Maserati V4 non è di certo la più famosa, ma è quasi sicuramente l'unica ad essere stata carrozzata per il "normale" uso stradale. La sua carrozzeria, opera di Zagato, è stata recentemente restaurata e oggi la si può ammirare in tutto il suo splendore. E se ancora non si è convinti della sua unicità, basta alzare il cofano..."

"Among the great 16-cylinder race cars the Maserati V4 is certainly not the most famous, but it is most certainly the only one that was bodied for "normal" road use. The bodywork, the work of Zagato, has been recently restored and today one can admire it in all its splendour. And id you are still not convinced of its uniqueness, one only has to open the bonnet..."

From CMC Models in Germany

A little while back I purchased a 1:18 scale model of the Maserati Tipo 250F by CMC Models, and what an excellent model it turned out. When news hit the internet that CMC Models were bringing out a 1:18 scale model of the Tipo 61 'Birdcage', I just couldn't wait!

I have finally managed to get hold of this new metal based 1:18 scale model of the Tipo 60/61 'Birdcage' by CMC Models. And, believe me I wasn't disappointed. I just couldn't believe that a detailed model of this quality could be so reasonably priced - at Joachim's price of GB £125 it's a steal!!

I bought my model from my friend Joachim in Germany who having given me a reasonably priced package if GB 115.00 (including insured postage) for the 250F - the price I was quoted here in the UK was GB £150.00!! He was just as reasonable with his price os GB £125.00 (including insured postage) for the Tipo 61 - the price I was quoted here in the UK was GB £165.00!!

Joachim has been collecting CMC model Cars for many years now, and his wife has been collecting and dealing in stamps for almost 12 years.

Four years ago she added die-cast models to the business, specialising in exclusive cars and steam engines. She was very succesful and the business has grown steadily.

They started dealing exclusively with CMC Models but have now added many other die-cast model manufacturers to their range; including NZG, Conrad, Revell etc.

Another branch of the business is steam engines. They sell a lot of steam machines like 'Stirling Engines'. Other model engines include Wilesco, Böhm Motors, and engines produced by smaller companies who specialise in producing very few limited edition models per year.

Joachim and his wife's main goal in business is that their customers should be very satisfied with their service. Last year they focused on for all their models.

Joachim can offer visitors to this site the following special prices:

1:18 scale CMC Maserati 250F - EURO 174,00 including insured postage (Europe only).
1:18 scale CMC Maserati Tipo 61 'Birdcage' - EURO 185,00 including insured postage (Europe only)
