"Dear Enrico,

Enclosed are some pictures of former F1 driver Maria Theresa de Filippis in a 250F. It's the 250F of Mr. Peter Heuberger, Chassis #2522.

Pictures taken at the International Maserati Rally 2006, Interlaken, Switzerland. Saturday 16.9.2006.

Best regards,

HP.

PS. Maybe you did attent this event. Saw a Biturbo Spyder in the garage of the hotel that may have been your car."

"Hi Enrico,

Still enjoying my Coupe, off to Bologna this weekend in it, should be fun. I'm looking at buying a Sports Exhaust system as I believe the standard system is too quiet for my tastes so was wondering if you, any of your tame experts or fellow readers had any views/preferences.

I've had Tubi Style exhausts before which are indeed excellent but they ain't exactly cheap. I see that CSC Marmitte and Larini Systems offer back boxes, also anyone any experience of a bespoke system from such as Quicksilver or Hayward & Scott? Another option if its possible could be to fit a GranSport system with the bypass valve, although this is probably more expensive than the Tubi!

Too much choice and not enough info!

Can anyone help?

Kind Regards,

Paul."

"Hi Enrico,

Here are four photos of interesting projects recently undertaken at my workshop. The kind of craftsmanship you don't see too often these days.

MERAK WHEELS:

At last I have found a partner as obsessive as myself to provide an alternative to 'gloooopy' powder coated wheels! Together with a specialist wheel company, I have duplicated the original finish of these beautiful wheels. Together with fresh Campagnola stickers these rims look absolutely period perfect, with all the delicate details of these mag casting left in place.

BARCHETTA:

A few years ago I took a mould from a Maserati Barchetta and created a 'race day' nose. Laminated in Carbon fibre this nose provides a tough yet light front that allows you to race as hard as you like without the fear of damaging original parts. This is nose cone No 3 packed and ready to depart for Germany.

QUATTROPORTE I:

Part of the amazing Quattroporte I restoration project from Bill McGrath, has been the repair and laquering of all the interior woodwork. Beautifully made in solid mahogany, the wood had aged and worn over the past forty years. After carefully chipping and scraping the old brittle laquer away, the repairs to the wood were made and the first of many coats of laquer applied. Wet sanded between each coat, a total of 24 coats was applied before perfection was achieved.

SEE RED, SEPTEMBER 23rd and 24th

On 23rd and 24th September the VSCC hosted the See Red meeting at Donington Park to celebrate 100 years of Grand Prix. Whilst there have been other celebrations of the event this year, the See Red meeting was the only one to feature proper racing representing all ten decades. It was particularly heartening to see the Edwardian racers, dating back to 1903, being driven hard in full race conditions, with some of them lapping at over 60mph.

A pity then that so few owners from the Maserati Club turned up to support the event and the marque. On the Saturday with a mere three Maseratis parked in the reserved club area we were actually outnumbered by the racing Maseratis taking part over the weekend! Is there a moral to this tale? Not really, just be there next year!

On the Sunday we managed six cars in the club parking area: Biturbo, 222 4v, Ghibli, two 3200GTs and a Coupe; and a Khamsin was parked nearby.

Heavy rain on the Friday had made the ground muddy but fine weather over the weekend dried things out, although a short sharp shower on Sunday morning made the track wet for the drivers out on practice, but by late morning the track had dried again. Plenty of warm sunshine added to the enjoyment of sitting on the grass above Craner Curves watching ancient machinery tearing down and then uphill through the splendid amphitheatre that stretches from Hollywood to McLeans.

In Sunday’s VSCC Historic Seaman Trophy race David Morris took Rodney Smith’s 1939 4CL onto the circuit and scored a fifth position behind a swarm of ERAs and a Riley Special. Also we should not forget that the same car had done well at Goodwood Revival a few weeks previously when it captured second place in Mark Gillies’ hands in the Goodwood Trophy.

In the next race, the BRDC Reg Parnell Trophy for Historic Sports Cars, another Rodney Smith car, a 300S, was driven by Mark Gillies, and he was chased by Tony Bailey’s OSCA MT4. The OSCA pulled off the track in mid-race and lost time after attempts to bump start it by rolling downhill from Hollywood failed; eventually it was restarted and it did finish the race albeit in last place. Mark Gillies brought home the 300S in eighth position.

The VSCC Flockhart Trophy Race saw two CM 250Fs and an A6GCM competing. Barrie “Whizzo” Williams was piloting CM5 belonging to David Wenman and yes, you guessed it, with Whizzo at the wheel it came in at second, and also claimed the second best lap time. Gerry Hann’s CM7 was driven by Allan Miles who held on to fourth position for much of the race, but pulled out after eleven laps. Also in this race was David Bennett’s A6GCM which always stands out in its resplendent blue livery with yellow noseband, but this time only managed 22nd place.

Thanks to the VSCC’s low-key approach to the organisation of the event we were able to enjoy free access to paddock and pit areas where competitors, enthusiasts and spectators can mingle freely and enjoy a friendly and good-spirited atmosphere. This is something that is sadly lacking now at certain historic events which have become over-hyped, over-commercialised and elitist.

Enjoy,

Roger."

"Hi Enrico,

I send you some photos from the 3rd Memorial "Marco Turci" in Modena last weekend.

47 Maseratis I've seen there on the first day. I was there with my 430 4V and the only driver from Austria.

Great meeting, good organised and a lot of nice people. The photos of the Tipo 63 'Birdcage' were made at the Panini Museum.

Maybe you can use some photos for your great Homepage.

Best regards,

Paul."

""Hi Enrico,

You are very fast.

Yes I enjoy the meeting. Next year we are going with 3 Maseratis to Modena. This year was only time for the first day of the meeting, but the next meeting I stay there the for the whole programme. Also unfortunately not at the track at Fiorano.

But no a problem because I have a little problem with my new back wheels. I take 225/50/16 on the back and now I feel very nasty in long curves by speed more than 140 km/h. the feeling in the as says that the back slips aut of curve - it doesn't do it - but if you feel it you automatically control your line and so your drive like drunken. I have to replace the back wheels with the original 205/50/16 soon as possible.

Food, yes, the fist dinner in the restaurant Cardinal was ok, if I can choose I don't go there for a second time but it was ok. At the evening I drive back to Vienna so I can't say anything about the gala dinner.

Best regards,

Paul.
