MASERATI TROFEO MC WORLD SERIES - ROUND 5

"Dear Enrico,

I attended in the Maserati Trofeo MC again today.

The overall schedule was below.

1st Nov. Free Practice 1 and 2
2nd Nov. Qualifying 1 and 2, Races 1 and 2
3rd Nov. Race 3

There were lots of events and good hostability from Maserati China and the dealerships.

Remote Control Car circuit, Interactive Car Game, Photo Corner and Nail painting are the daily programme.

Maserati Tent Visit and Pit Walk on both days.

Main day is 3rd November and there were below programs.

Test Drive in Shanghai Circuit, Trofeo Circuit taxi, Baby Foundation Benefit Auction and Celebrity Ceremony.

Of course there was a good lunch, cafe and sweets, and everyone enjoyed the Maserati quiz or Racing dance performances in the lounge.

It must be huge fun to drive Maserati on the Shanghai curcuit but unfortunately I missed the chance. Hopefully I can enjoy driving Maserati on Shanghai Cuircuit next year !!

I attended the Trofeo last year and this year. More than 400 poeple attended the Trofeo this year and it seemed there were more than twice the numbers than last year (I do not know the number of participants).

Best regards,

Hisato."

MASERATI TROFEO MC WORLD SERIES - ROUND 5

The last race in round five of the Maserati Trofeo MC World Series, held at Shanghai, saw Ange Barde climb to the top of the podium. Barde’s latest win is a repeat of his victory in the endurance event at Sonoma in August.

The Frenchman’s victory marked a turnaround in his fortunes in China after two retirements on Saturday. Barde made the most of his not being handicapped during the pits stops, extra time that Renaud Kuppens (second) and Mikkel Mac (third) had to sit out.

Fourth across the line was Mauro Calamia who put on a convincing drive from a starting position of twelfth. The Swiss driver saw his podium place vanish only towards the end of the 50-minute race when Mikkel Mac got the better of an exciting duel in which both drivers gave as good as they got. The fans that had gathered at the cutting-edge Formula 1 circuit were glued to the action. The crew made up of Alberto Cola and Patrick Gobbo took fifth ahead of Sbirrazzuoli and Adrien De Leener. Jiaing Tengyl, the first of the Asian drivers taking part, finished seventh. In all, 26 Maserati GranTurismo MC Trofeos lined up on the grid.

During the day, a number of special awards were bestowed on the best drivers from Asia in Maserati’s Hospitality area. The prizewinners were the Chinese pairing of Wang Yang and Wei Yu and the crew formed by Akihiro Asai (Japan) and Billy Fung (Hong Kong).

Saturday’s races were won by Cedric Sbirrazzuoli and Alan Simoni.

With Shanghai out of the way, Renaud Kuppens is still in command of the Overall classification on 229 points. In second is Mikkel Mac who has closed in and is now 52 points off the pace. Third is the Italian crew of Simoni/Ragazzi on 115 with Ange Barde sitting on 113.

The final, decisive round in the Maserati Trofeo MC World Series will be run in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) on 13 December.

Ange Barde: “I am pleased to have finished this race and I did it in the best possible way by making the top of the podium. On the other two occasions, be it down to bad luck or clashing with other drivers, I was forced to retire. The win is even more special and came in front of lots of friends who came here to support me”.

Renaud Kuppens: “It was crucial to finish the Shanghai weekend with a solid performance to leave me with a healthy lead going into the last round in Abu Dhabi. Perhaps I could have collected a few more points yesterday but I opted not to take any risks and limit the pit lane handicap. The plan worked out well and allowed me to take this second place. The only disappointment is that this is the only round this season in which I haven’t won a race”.

RACE 3 RESULTS

1. Ange Barde 51’40.727
2. Renaud Kuppens 51’50.567*
3. Mikkel Mac 51’56.921

MASERATI TROFEO MC WORLD SERIES - ROUND 5

Cedric Sbirrazzuoli and Alan Simoni claimed victory, in Races 1 and 2, at the fifth round of the 2013 Maserati Trofeo MC World Series in Shanghai, China.

©Maserati

2013 Maserati Trofeo MC World Series in Shanghai, China.

The Monaco-based driver was the first to triumph in the morning event, coming out on top in a four-way duel. Things were tense right from the start with three safety car restarts caused by drivers not respecting the starting procedure. The closing stages of the race were even more exciting with Sbirrazzuoli making the most of a last-curve error by Riccardo Ragazzi to claim the win. Ragazzi had led from the start but his mistake, probably caused by tyre wear, saw him slip off the podium. Alberto Cola (third) and Mikkel Mac (second) were the drivers who edged him out in a photo-finish. Renaud Kuppens came home 3'207 down on the winner, a result that was perhaps down to letting his concentration waver after an early clash with Ange Barde that saw the Frenchman limp out with a puncture.

Simoni - Kuppens - Mac

In the afternoon race it was Alan Simoni’s turn to shine as he made amends for his team-mate, Riccardo Ragazzi, to secure his first win in this mono-marque series. This was another action-packed thirty minutes with the Italian managing to outdo Mikkel Mac and Renaud Kuppens to take the win. The Belgian bowed out of the fight towards the end, probably with one eye on the overall standings. Dutchman Mathijs Bakker finished outside the podium but improved on his earlier sixth spot.

The third and final race of this fifth round in the 2013 Maserati Trofeo MC World Series, held in Shanghai, will take place tomorrow (Sunday 3 November) at 11.10 a.m (local time).

2013 Maserati Trofeo MC World Series in Shanghai, China.

Cedric Sbirrazzuoli: “I was in Ragazzi’s slipstream for a while. I moved out towards the end, hoping he would make a mistake as his tyres were really worn. This is how things turned out and I made the most of it to take the chequered flag. I would like to dedicate the win to Sean Edwards who passed away last month and who I considered to be one of the best GT drivers around”.

Alan Simoni: “It was an exceptional race; absolutely fantastic. I chased Mac and Kuppens early on and really felt it was going to be my day. I first got past the Dane and then took the opportunity to overtake Kuppens to move into the lead. I then tried to see things out and held the others off. I have been waiting for this for two years and finally my Maserati Trofeo moment has arrived”.

RACE 1 RESULT

1. Sbirrazzuoli/A. De Leener 32’01.253
2. Mikkel Mac 32’02.7720
3. Alberto Cola 32’02.725

RACE 2 RESULT

MASERATI RACING

"Hi Enrico,

Hope all is well, and I hope you can help. I am in need of new shock absorbers for my MASERATI RACING.

They are available but genuinely cost prohibitive for what they are (in my opinion). I am fortunate as David Askew can rebuild my existing units for a very reasonable price.

I would very much like to replace the original Konis with a modern set of conventional dampers. I can cross reference down to Maserati part numbers regarding conventional dampers from the 222, 2.24v etc., but that's where it all runs cold.

What modern strut inserts and rear shocks can I install in lieu of the original Konis ?

In a perfect world I could install a fully adjustable set of coil overs (I figure that is where the money should be spent) and with a rebuild of the originals, I would have both sets. Hopefully you or one of the readers will have some information. I'm sure both Bilstein and Koni make units that will fit with very little to no modification.

I also include the photos the dealer put on their website. I took these at ISSOTA Maserati in Bezon, just north of Paris. I found the shop through your website. These were taken the week after it was delivered from the Netherlands. There are a lot of the off angle shots because that's what's required for the USDOT form for importation (HS7).

Another thing I wanted to mention is trying to organize a sort of Maserati reunion over at Monthlerey, just south of Paris. The Italian car festival had a reasonable turnout for its first ever showing. It is an absolutely knockout circuit. Reminds me of Monza and Road America. Refreshing to see a real track operating. I'm not entirely sure how to organize one or if it is remotely possible, but I wondered if we could put something on the website to guage interest.

What's your thought ? I Figure it would be a good fun.

Take care, and all the best.

Raffaele."

MASERATI BITURBO SPYDER

"Hello Enrico,

Hope you are fine.

I am having problems with my 1989 2000cc Biturbo Spyder as the electrical functions are dying out. No indicators, no horn, erratic lights...

Has anyone come up with an alternative solution to the biturbo fusebox ? This seems to be a standard failing item, and I am sure some Biturbo owner has come up with a solution to this problem.

Is it feasible to divide the fusebox functions into separate modules ? Having a fusebox in the boot for the lights and indicators, horn, etc.. A separate fuse box for engine components in the engine bay or in an accessible area under the dashboard, other items in a unit near the glove compartment. This would avoid overheating of the fuse boxes and make it easier to trace the faults.

Maybe one of you visitors could help, and their greater experience would be greatly appreciated.

Ronald."

MASERATI 222 E SEAT MOUNTS

"Hi Enrico,

Have you ever seen broken seat mounts on the Biturbos like mine ? It looks like metal fatigue.

I spoke to David he he says that it is a common problem in Biturbos when the rear bolts loosen.

Maybe you should put an note on your site for everyone to check their seat mounts.

I am going to get duplicate fabricated in thicker gauge steel and the fabricator may want to take orders if this is the case.

I am also getting someone in china to replicate the check carpet for me too.

Regards,

Peter."

THE ALL-NEW MASERATI QUATTROPORTE
DEMANDS TO BE DRIVEN IN ‘THE FACE’

Tuesday 29 September 2013: Last night, the all-new Maserati Quattroporte starred in the 5th episode of Sky Living’s exciting entertainment series “The Face”. The luxury four door saloon took centre stage as Naomi Campbell, alongside fellow supermodel mentors Caroline Winberg and Erin O’Connor, battled it out with their teams of aspiring models to produce the best online Maserati commercial.

The Face Mentors with Director Sam Washington and Giulio Pastore

Shooting of Maserati Quattroporte commercial

The aim of the series, produced by Princess Productions and fronted by the stunning Naomi Campbell, is to find The Face - the girl who has what it takes to represent world-renowned make-up giant Max Factor. The three fashion icons Campbell, Winberg and O’Connor compete against each other with their teams in a series of real life fashion industry challenges for some of the world’s best known brands.

This week the client was luxury Italian car manufacturer Maserati, whose challenge for the teams was to shoot an online commercial for the all-new Maserati Quattroporte. With the Trident Marque’s flagship model representing style, elegance, technology and power, the brief was for the teams and the online campaign to embody and reflect all of these qualities in the performance.

Team Naomi winners Raquel Smith (left) and Emma Holmes (right)

Winning team receives direction from mentor Naomi Campbell

The pressure was on as all three teams needed to impress guest judge Giulio Pastore, General Manager Maserati Europe, who had the ultimate decision on which Maserati Quattroporte commercial was the best and to be used online. After much deliberation, there was one clear winning team; team Naomi. Not surprisingly, with a mentor as stylish, elegant and powerful as world renowned supermodel Naomi Campbell, remaining team members Emma Holmes and Racquel Smith received invaluable advice and were pushed to their limits to represent such qualities in the commercial alongside the Maserati Quattroporte.

In the final edit of the commercial, wearing stunning couture dresses by Iris van Herpen, 17 year old student Emma Holmes from Kent and 22 year old, fierce and feisty Jamaican Racquel Smith, begin running faster and faster towards the luxury four door saloon, racing each other to reach it first as it ‘demands to be driven’.

“The Face” airs on Sky Living every Monday at 9pm.
